Ball Appointed as Player Director

Home » Ball Appointed as Player Director

The English Partnership for Snooker and Billiards (EPSB) is today pleased to announce that Mark Ball is to join the Board as its first player director.

The appointment marks the conclusion of a period of constitutional review, which resulted in a significant restructure of the EPSB to include the appointment of a player director to the Board.

Following the conclusion of a process which has seen expressions of interest welcomed from players meeting the minimum criteria, from a number of strong applications the Board has selected Mark Ball to fulfil this role subject to ratification from the membership.

From Yorkshire, Ball has competed on the English Amateur circuit for many years, as well as having represented England at international events including the Home Nations and EBSA European Championships. He is also a committee member of the Leeds Billiards and Snooker Organisation, one of the most successful leagues in the country which attracts over 1,000 players each season.

Mark Ball said: “I am hugely excited to be able to join the EPSB as its first player director and be involved with the development of English snooker at all levels.

“I have been proud to represent my country at prestigious competitions including the European Championships in Serbia and I am looking forward to being able to play my part in helping to provide opportunities like these for the other fantastic amateur players that this country has.

“To be able to offer player insight at Board level will I believe help us to continue making improvements and helping this sport to become inclusive for all, while maintaining the traditions of snooker that make it such a wonderful sport. I have seen first-hand as a player the improvements made by the EPSB over the past two years and see this as the perfect time to get involved.”

Nigel Mawer QPM, EPSB Chairman said: “I am pleased to be able to welcome Mark to our team at the EPSB and am looking forward to work with him as we take the next steps in the development of our sport in this country.

“The experience and enthusiasm that Mark was able to show as part of his application set him out as the outstanding candidate for this position and I am confident that he will be able to add real value and insight to our team and decision-making processes going forwards.”

We would like to take his opportunity to thank each of the applicants for this position for the interest shown.
