Gary Miller defeated Steve Crowley 4-3 at the Frames Sports Bar in Coulsdon to win the first English Seniors Tour event of the 2025/26 campaign.
For 60-year-old Miller, who finished as the runner-up in last season’s English Over-55 Championship, the success marked his first title on the English Seniors Tour and saw him take an early lead in the 2025/26 ranking list.
A total of 30 cueists competed at the two-day event in South London and five half-century breaks, including a top contribution of 90, helped Miller to victories over Tam Mustafa (4-2), Andy Battams (4-1) and Wayne Martin (4-1) to reach the final day.
Miller faced Chris Cooke in the semi-finals and continued his strong form as he raced into a 3-0 lead to move one frame away from victory.
Cooke hit back with a break of 51 before also taking the fifth frame to reduce his deficit to just one. It proved to be too little, too late though as Miller took the next to set up a title match contest with Crowley.
Crowley had dropped just three frames across four matches to reach the final, defeating Ali Anwar 4-2 in the semi-finals, and took the first two frames against Miller to move into the ascendancy.
The eventual champion restored parity by taking back-to-back frames before Crowley moved one away from victory with success in the fifth.
Miller held his nerve, however, taking frame six to force a decider before getting over the line by a 71-26 scoreline to win the first English Seniors Tour title of his career.
