Success for England at 2026 EBSA European Championships in Bulgaria

England representatives secured seven medals at the 2026 European Billiards & Snooker Association (EBSA) European Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Organised by the European Billiards & Snooker Association (EBSA), the championships were held at the Princess Hotel in Sofia with England players earning two gold, three silver and two bronze medals respectively.

ENGLAND WOMEN DO THE DOUBLE

Rebecca Kenna defeated compatriot Tessa Davidson to successfully retain the European Women’s Championship title before the two teamed up to secure the European Women’s Team Championship crown.

Kenna, who arrived in Sofia as the reigning champion, overcame Anja Vandenbussche from Belgium (3-1) and France’s Ophelie Laval (4-1) to set up a title match meeting with Davidson – who had last beaten Paula Judge 4-0 to reach the final.

The former World Snooker Tour (WST) professional ran out a 4-1 victor in the final to retain the title and, shortly after, Kenna and Davidson joined forces to beat the France team of Laval and Deu Va in a dramatic final frame to earn a second gold medal for their country.

SENIORS EARN SILVER

Wayne Brown came agonisingly close to a European double as he lost out in a deciding frame of the European Seniors Championship final before being defeated by the same margin in the title match for the European Seniors Team Championship alongside Ian Martin.

It was a strong fortnight for the 56-year-old nonetheless as he helped to earn two of the three silver medals won by England at the Championships – alongside Women’s runner-up Davidson.

Brown beat Gary Colcombe (3-0), compatriot Gary Miller (4-2), David John (4-1) and Philip Ciantar (4-0) to reach the final where he met Belgium’s Kevin Hanssens – ultimately losing out 5-4 in a match that saw the winner earn their place in the 2027 World Seniors Championship.

There was similar heartbreak in the European Seniors Team event as Brown and Martin were defeated 3-2 in the final to the Belgium side of Alain Vandersteen and Peter Bullen – having earlier defeated the England ‘2’ team of Miller and Steve Crowley, who earned bronze medals by reaching the last four.

BRONZE FOR HUSSAIN

Halim Hussain reached the semi-finals of the European Shoot Out Championship to join the England seniors team of Gary Miller and Steve Crowley in earning bronze medals for England.

The event, held under shoot out rules, saw Hussain defeat Jean-Marc Beauchamp and Viktor Iliev to reach the last 16.

Fellow countryman Peter Devlin awaited in the quarter-finals and it was Hussain who advanced on the final day of the event, eventually losing out to runner-up Alfie Davies from Wales in the last four – earning bronze and bringing England’s total medal tally at the Championships to seven.

TAYLOR-FUENTE TAKES CHARGE OF FINAL

There was also success in Sofia for EPSB referee Ben Taylor-Fuente, who was chosen to officiate the final of the European Shoot Out Championship.

The 10-minute title match saw Scotland’s Dean Young face Wales’ Alfie Davies – with Young securing the title.
