Rising star Daisy May Oliver joined the latest episode of Snooker Club podcast today to look ahead to the all-new Women’s Snooker Open Day which takes place this Saturday (November 15) at Landywood Snooker Club in Walsall.
Organised by snooker’s national governing body the English Partnership for Snooker and Billiards (EPSB), in association with Italian-based global jewellery brand Nomination Italy and leading independent jeweller T.H.Baker, the landmark day will encourage female participation in our sport. Aimed at both experienced players, or people who have never picked up a cue before – the fun day is open to women and girls of all levels of experience and ability to come and try snooker. Oliver, age 16, is ranked tenth in the women’s under-21 world rankings and was a semi-finalist at the Women’s UK Championship under-21 event this year.
“I started off playing pool with my dad, then snooker attracted me,” she said. “Watching players like Judd Trump, Mark Selby and Stephen Hendry with all the flair shots – it called to me. I have gone at it full pelt. I am not worried about my gender, that doesn’t hold me back from what I can do. I practise as much as anyone else my age so I will get to the level that I want to get to. I practise around 20 hours a week. I’m at sixth form but I take every opportunity I get to put time on the table. People say I should have a social life but I say I’d rather play snooker!
“The women’s open day offers a comfortable community environment, we want you to join and be part of it, we want to see new players coming through. It’s so important that women get the right opportunities. You need to start at a young age so you have time to develop and grow.”

Oliver was asked about Bai Yulu, who made a break of 145 at the recent International Championship, the highest ever by a woman in a pro tournament. “She is technically brilliant,” said Oliver. “Her all-round game, just the way she approaches the table, you can see the potential. She is winning matches on the pro tour as well as the women’s tour. She’s definitely one to watch in the future.”
Also on this episode of Snooker Club, Stephen Hendry, Mark Watson, and Steven Hallworth discuss the players who desperately need a win in 2025 – including Judd Trump. The panel react to Wu Yize’s maiden ranking title and look ahead to the Riyadh Season Snooker Championship where the players have the chance to make the first ever 167 break and earn a $1 million prize.
