Matthew Glasby beat Billy Castle 4-0 at the Landywood Snooker Club to win the first English Amateur Tour event of the season.
The 29-year-old impressed during the two-day event as he defeated two former professionals and battled through two deciders to secure his maiden crown on the English Amateur Tour.
Recent Q Tour Europe event winner Hammad Miah was the first to fall at the hands of Glasby as the eventual champion hit a top break of 83 en route to a 4-1 victory before defeating Callum Downing by the same scoreline in the last 32.
The concluding day of play saw the final 16 players compete for the title at the Staffordshire venue.
Among the line-up was teenager Oliver Sykes, who had hit the headlines with a remarkable last 32 performance against Paul Oatley that saw him fire in breaks of 100, 127, 127 and 126 in a 4-1 success.
Sykes’ tournament came to an end in the last 16, losing 4-2 to Kayden Brierley – who Glasby would defeat in the quarter-finals after coming from 2-0 behind to beat Alex Millington in a deciding frame in the previous round.
A semi-final meeting with Hayden Staniland saw the 29-year-once once again having to dig deep as he trailed on three separate occasions before finally coming through as a 4-3 victor.
The title match saw Glasby, who was aiming for his first title on the English Amateur Tour, facing former World Snooker Tour professional Castle in a best-of-seven frame match.
After taking a scrappy opener, Glasby found form and compiled breaks of 65 and 81 to move one away from victory before sealing the title in the next.
