Hugill Wins English Amateur Tour Title in Leeds

Home » Hugill Wins English Amateur Tour Title in Leeds

Ashley Hugill defeated Peter Lines 4-2 at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds to win the fourth English Amateur Tour event of the season.

The 31-year-old former professional became the fourth different winner of an English Amateur Tour event during the campaign as he denied Lines a second successive title.

Hugill dropped just three frames in as many matches on the opening day as he downed Darren Burns (4-1), Sean Maddocks (4-0) and recent Shoot Out sensation Kaylan Patel (4-2) to reach the quarter-finals.

The Sunday saw the original 61 player field narrowed down to eight remaining hopefuls.

The eventual champion began the concluding day with a 4-1 success against recent English Junior Tour event winner Oliver Sykes, before overcoming fellow former professional Ashley Carty by the same scoreline to secure a place in the final.

Event three champion Lines was the title match opponent after making it 11 consecutive victories in English Amateur Tour matches by dramatically coming from 2-0 and 3-1 down against George Pragnell to prevail in a decider.

The opening four frames of the best-of-seven frame final contest were shared with both players leading at different stages.

From there, it was Hugill who pulled away and a break of 65 in frame six was enough for him to seal victory at the Northern Snooker Centre.

The fifth and final English Amateur Tour event of the season takes place at the Landywood Snooker Club on 10-11 January 2026. Enter now via WPBSA SnookerScores.
