Under-14 Championship | Shaping the Future of our Sport

Home » Under-14 Championship | Shaping the Future of our Sport

Following last week’s exciting news about the new look for the English Under-14 Championship, we’re very pleased to announce some key measures to support the clubs hosting these events and to make it as easy as possible for new players to take part.

Entry fees and memberships

We’re lowering the entry fee for the Under-14 Championship to £1. We recognise that this age group represents many players who are taking their first steps into our sport and we want to eliminate cost as a barrier to competitive participation for these fledgling players.

We’re also cutting the price of membership for under-14s to just £1. We understand that the majority of these players may only take part in the club-based qualifier, and we want to fully support this opportunity to experience entry into a national competition. These fees align with our junior holiday club programme, which kicked off this summer, supported by Sport England funding to give young people across the country a taste of fun and engaging group sessions led by a WPBSA World Snooker Coach.

Please note, any under-14s who have already taken up a membership this season, or entry into the Under-14 Championship, will have their fees part-refunded to reflect these adjusted prices.

Club support

We’re equally keen to support our affiliated clubs to host and promote these events effectively.

By empowering many club coaches to run under-14 club-based qualifiers in conjunction with recruiting players from their existing junior sections and local area, we’re working together to achieve a significant growth in participation among young people.

To recognise the commitment these clubs are making to run and publicise this competition we will pay £50 to the lead coach/individual at each club operating an under-14 club-based qualifier.

We will also share marketing resources to support this promotion, aimed at encouraging young people at any level to take part.
